Question:

Dear Road Warrior,

I had a question about a speed limit sign that used to be just outside of Cotati going south on Old Redwood Highway. The speed limit in Cotati on that stretch is 35 mph, and as soon as you leave the city limits, there was a sign that boosted the limit to 40 mph and then a bit further it goes up to 50 mph. I believe that the 40 mph sign was knocked down a few months ago and has not been replaced, so there’s the 35 mph sign and then the 50 mph sign over by Railroad Road. The other side of the road does still have a posted 40 mph sign. My questions are:

1) Is the sign going to be replaced?

2) Since the former 40 mph sign is no longer posted, can someone now get a ticket for going 40 on that stretch of road?

Andre

Answer from CHP Officer Jon Sloat, spokesman for the local office:

Replacing the sign is up to the county, but they have been notified. For us to issue a ticket, the sign must be in place and accurate, so we would not enforce that until it if fixed.
