With a flower memorial to the latest fatal crash victim erected just feet away, a construction crew has started work to improve safety on Highway 29 at Hartmann Road in Lake County’s Hidden Valley Lake subdivision.

Caltrans’ $290,000 project calls for the installation of traffic-activated flashing beacons that will warn drivers on Highway 29 that cars stopped on Hartmann Road may be ready to turn onto the highway and that southbound 29 drivers may be about to turn across the highway onto Hartmann.

The project, which on some days will require one-way traffic control, is expected to be finished by the end of August.
