Driving through the Highway 101 construction zone just got easier in Rohnert Park.

Caltrans, after concerns from the CHP and complaints from Road Warrior readers, again has realigned southbound 101 between Wilfred Avenue and Rohnert Park Expressway.

Before, Caltrans had both southbound lanes making a severe jog to the right, the fast lane merging into the slow lane, which became the fast lane, and a new slow lane merging out of the southbound Wilfred Avenue onramp at about the same area as the RPX offramp. It sounds complicated, and it was. It caught some drivers by surprise, required some tricky driving and even the CHP called it “convoluted.” CLICK HERE to read earlier column.

Now, with the latest realignment, the fast lane remains the fast lane, the slow lane the slow lane and the Wilfred onramp merges into the slow lane. The onramp also merges much farther north than it did, giving drivers plenty of time and room to move onto the freeway and those on 101 to take the RPX exit.
