Here’s a question from a reader:

What is the reason for the speed limit dropping from 65 to 55 in Marin as you go over the hill near the Civic Center? I always thought it was to reduce speed because the lanes narrowed by one over that hill. However, they have long since completed the widening project that runs through there with no change to the posted speed limit. Seems like a speed trap to me. Is there a better, logical reason?

The answer comes from Caltrans spokesman Robert Haus:

The limit is set at 55 miles per hour due to the number of horizontal and vertical curves in this area, and also because the interchanges are spaced closely together.
