You might have spotted that big legal ad in last Sunday’s paper (Page B11) listing numerous Santa Rosa streets and wondered what it was all about.
It was the city’s notification that it’s added another street to its list of those that commercial vehicles, such as cement trucks, delivery trucks and big rigs, cannot use unless they’re making a delivery, pickup or have some specific work on that street.
The latest street to be added was Earle Street from South A Street to Santa Rosa Avenue, city Traffic Engineer Robert Sprinkle said.
He said the City Council added Earle Street because of a request to do so from the neighborhood and as part of a provision allowing a commercial development on the street.
“It helps with the wear and tear of the streets,” Sprinkle said. “Neighborhood streets are not built for truck loads,” other than the occasional delivery or weekly garbage pickups, while major streets are built to hold up under truck traffic.
And Earle Street was just repaved, he noted, and the truck prohibition will help protect the pavement.
