Caltrans’ beginning work on the remodeled East Washington Street interchange with Highway 101 means part of the street will be closed two nights this week.

The No. 2 (right) westbound lane of East Washington, the major east-west road in Petaluma, will be shut from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday and again from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday. Crews will be cutting down trees along 101 near East Washington, weather permitting.

During the day Thursday, crews will move to the northbound shoulder of 101 just north of East Washington and will take a week or two to cut down trees there. No lane closures are expected during that work.

As part of the remodeling project, Caltrans plans a straighter southbound 101 onramp, a northbound offramp with two lanes instead of one and a new northbound onramp. The new interchange is expected to be done in 2014.
