We have received many questions about the metering lights that Caltrans installed at onramps on Highway 101 as part of the highway widening project staring in 2001. People have wondered what they are for and when they will be used. The short answer is they allow freeway traffic to better flow by regulating the number of cars that can access the freeway at any given time, and they will be switched on in March.
